1. What is taxidermy?

Taxidermy is the art of preserving an animal using different cleaning, sculpting and mounting techniques that allow it to maintain its natural appearance. Taxidermy can be created for a variety of purposes; artistic, sentimental, for education, or as part of a personal collection.

2. How long does the taxidermy process take?

The time it takes to complete a taxidermy project varies depending on the size and complexity of the specimen along with the current lead time. You will be provided with an estimated timeline after reviewing the animal and its specific requirements.

3. Where do you source the animals?

None of the animals I work with have been killed for the purpose of taxidermy and have been acquired legally. They are natural death, road kill, deceased pets, pest control which would otherwise be incinerated, livestock, rescue centre casualties or frozen feeder animals from the pet food industry.

4. How do I properly prepare an animal for taxidermy?

The best way to prepare your animal for taxidermy is to contact us as soon as possible after the specimen has passed. The sooner we begin the preservation process, the better the final result will be. If you're unsure how to handle the animal, we can offer advice on how to store and transport it safely.

5. What types of mounts do you offer?

We specialize in a range of taxidermy mounts, including full-body mounts, shoulder mounts, head mounts, and even custom poses. We can discuss your preferences and recommend the most suitable option based on the animal and your vision for the piece.

6. What should I do if I have an animal I want mounted?

If you have an animal you would like mounted, firstly ensure that it has been legally obtained then simply reach out via the contact form found by clicking here or emailing me at hannahmatthewstaxidermy@gmail.com with details of the species, size, and any specific requirements. We will guide you through the next steps, including delivery, pricing, and the design process. We can also help with shipping if necessary.

7. How much does taxidermy cost?

The cost of taxidermy varies depending on the size, species, and complexity of the mount. We offer a range of pricing options based on your specific project and can provide an estimate once we’ve reviewed the details. Please contact us for a consultation and a custom quote.

8. Do you offer repairs for old taxidermy?

Yes! We offer restoration and repair services for older taxidermy pieces. Whether it’s fixing damage or restoring color and texture, we can bring your old mounts back to life. Please get in touch with us to discuss the specifics of your piece.

9. How do I care for my taxidermy mount?

To keep your taxidermy mount looking its best, it’s important to keep it out of direct sunlight and in a dry, cool environment. Dust it regularly using a soft brush, and avoid using cleaning products or water on the mount. If you have any concerns, we can offer specific care advice based on the animal and mount.

10. Is taxidermy ethical?

We are committed to ethical practices in taxidermy. We follow all legal regulations regarding the handling and preservation of animals. Our focus is on respect for the animals and providing clients with quality, sustainable mounts that honor the creatures they are modeled after.
